Princess Maja’s First Date (B1-B2 English)

Princess Maja lived in a tall castle near a quiet forest. She had long brown hair and kind eyes. She loved reading, drinking tea, and watching the stars at night.

One morning, a letter arrived. It was from a young man named Peter. He lived in the village at the bottom of the hill.

The letter said: “Dear Princess Maja, I would like to take you on a date. Would you like to have a picnic in the forest this Saturday?-  Signed, Peter”

Maja smiled. She said yes.

On Saturday, she put on her favourite black dress. It was simple, but she liked it. She didn’t want to wear her heavy crown.

She wanted to feel normal — just like anyone else going on a date.

Peter was waiting at the edge of the forest. He had a basket with bread, cheese, fruit, and lemonade.

He was a little nervous. His hands were shaking.

“Hello, Princess,” he said.

“Please, just call me Maja,” she said with a smile.

They walked into the forest together. The trees were tall, and the sunlight came through the leaves in soft yellow pieces.

It was a beautiful afternoon.

They sat on a blanket near a small river. They talked for a long time. Peter told her about his work — he made wooden furniture for people in the village.

Maja told him about her books and her love for the night sky.

“I have a telescope,” she said. “You can see a thousand stars with it.”

Peter’s eyes went wide. “Really? I’ve never used one.”

“Then you should come and try it sometime,” she said.

Peter smiled. “I would love that.”

When the sun began to set, they packed up the basket slowly. Neither of them wanted the day to end.

They walked back through the forest together, side by side, listening to the birds and the sound of the river getting quieter behind them.

At the edge of the forest, they stopped. The sky was turning pink and orange. It was the kind of evening that felt like it was made for something special.

Peter turned to her. He looked a little nervous again — just like he had at the beginning.

“Maja,” he said quietly. “I had a really wonderful time today.”

“So did I,” she said.

There was a short silence. A warm, comfortable silence.

Then, very gently, Peter leaned forward and kissed her — softly, on the lips.

Maja’s heart beat a little faster. When they stepped back, she looked at him and smiled. He smiled too.

“Goodnight, Peter,” she said.

“Goodnight, Maja,” he said.

She walked back up the hill to her castle, still smiling to herself. That night, she didn’t need her telescope to see something beautiful.

She just closed her eyes, remembered the afternoon — and the end of it — and felt a quiet, happy warmth in her chest.

And slowly, peacefully… she fell asleep.

The end.
