Luna Goes to Amsterdam (B1-B2 English)

Luna the cat was very happy.

She was going on a trip. This time, the city was Amsterdam.

Luna had been to London before. She had also visited New York. Both trips were exciting. But Amsterdam was different. Amsterdam had canals.

Luna packed her small bag. She put on her favourite scarf. It was orange — just like the Dutch flag. She also brought a little umbrella. Cities near water can be rainy.

At the airport, Luna showed her passport. The woman at the desk looked at Luna’s photo. Then she looked at Luna’s face.

“A cat travelling alone?” she said.

“I travel a lot,” said Luna with a smile.

She got on the plane and found her seat. She looked out of the window. Soon, the city lights grew small, then disappeared. Luna closed her eyes.

When Luna arrived in Amsterdam, she stepped outside the airport and took a deep breath.

The air was cool and fresh. She could smell flowers. Not too far away, there were tulips: red ones, yellow ones, white ones. Luna loved tulips.

She took a tram into the city. The tram moved slowly through the streets. Luna looked out of the window.

She saw tall, narrow houses along the water. She saw bicycles — so many bicycles. More than she had ever seen in London or New York.

“This place is wonderful,” she thought.

Luna was meeting her old friend. His name was Milo. Milo was also a cat. He was a big, fluffy grey cat who lived in Amsterdam.

They had met a long time ago at a market in Paris. They stayed in touch. Milo had invited Luna to visit.

Luna walked along one of the canals. She looked at the map on her phone. She turned left at the bridge, then right at the cheese shop.

And then she saw him.

Milo was sitting outside a small café. He was drinking something warm. His tail was moving slowly from side to side.

“Luna!” he said, standing up.

“Milo!” said Luna.

They were both very happy.

They sat down together. The waiter brought two cups of hot chocolate.

“Tell me everything,” said Milo. “How was London? How was New York?”

Luna smiled. She had so many stories. But first, she looked around. She saw the canal. She saw the old buildings. She saw a boat moving slowly under the bridge.

“I’ll tell you everything,” she said. “But first — I love this city.”

Milo laughed. “I knew you would.”

They stayed at the café for a long time. They talked and talked. The sun moved across the sky. The boats moved along the canal.

Luna felt warm and happy.

She didn’t know it yet, but Amsterdam would become one of her favourite places in the world.

The End.

Goodnight.
